Desperate street whores

One of my friends in Secondlife is a shopkeeper. She has a small shop she rents at Street Whores - Town Square. Veteran users of SL know that escorts buy a lot of clothing. They're good customers. So why not open a shop in a 'naughty neighbourhood'?

Whoring is a waiting game. A good hooker knows this.

One of the things shop owners do is paying rent. For this reason they teleport in and out of regions where they have a shop. On such an occasion, my friend mentioned to me, she was contacted in IM by a prostitute offering her services. She thought it was kind of funny, paid her rental box and left the scene.

It is actually against the rules of the place to send instant messages to incoming men. The reason is obvious: there are mostly several girls around. IF they all behave like this, every incomer will be greeted with multiple IM windows popping up. Many people don't like this, so they will choose to leave and possibly not visit the place again. Second life's history is full of nightclubs that were killed by their own staff in this fashion. A famous example from the past is Escort Alliance, a place 'for escorts, run by escorts' that first became hugely popular and then lost all of it's clients due to the aggressive fight for clients by it's escorts.

Also the quiet hours can actually bring a hooker good business

For an experienced hooker it's not a good tactic to send unsollicited IM's to every man that comes in. She will want to build up a base of steady clients who are happy with her service and keep coming back. Earning a quick buck right now, but loosing your workplace and income in the long run is not an option for her.
